Polypropylene Types

It is one of the raw materials of polypropylene plastic. It was first produced in 1954 by German chemist Karl Rehn and Professor Giulio Natta. This polymer produced is known as isotactic polypropylene. This polymer started to be used in the textile industry in 1957. Later, a syndiotactic polypropylene was synthesized by the same team.

Polypropylene is among the most widely used plastic polymers. The demand for this polymer is growing. In particular, the widespread use of mass production and industrialization has increased the use of such polymers. Polypropylene is used in many sectors. It acts as a raw material for many sectors such as automotive, textile, food, packaging, stationery. It is possible to come across products produced using polypropylene around us.

Polypropylene is also preferred because it is a cheap raw material that is easy to process. This polymer is not the only variety. There are many varieties with different characteristics. The most commonly used types of polypropylene are as follows:

Isotactic Polypropylene

It is a polymer with a crystalline structure formed as a result of methyl groups aligning with each other along the polymer. It occurs by the formation of repeat units by linear figures. The degree of crystallinity is very high. It is a type of polypropylene used in fiber production.

Syndiotactic Polypropylene

It is the type of polymer that emerges as a result of the lower and upper arrangement of methyl groups along the polymer molecule. It is formed by the alternate repetition of non-identical structures. It has a crystal structure. When it is thrown into xylene, it dissolves.

Atactic Polypropylene

It is the polymer that emerges as a result of the random arrangement of methyl groups along the polymer molecule. The structure of the atakic polymer does not have a certain crystalline structure, which makes it an amorphous polymer. It dissolves when it is thrown into heptane and hexane substances.

Homo Polymer

It is a type of polypropylene that can be molded easily and is very suitable for blow molding and injection processes. It is frequently used in the making of toys, mostly for babies. It is also frequently mentioned in the production of the parts in the vacuum cleaner and the plastic items we use in the kitchens. In addition, it is a polymer that is frequently used in the manufacture of products such as television cases, bumpers and front panels, as well as some car parts. The use of this polymer is popular not only in such products, but also in medical products such as sterile syringes, as well as in simple products such as bottle caps, plastic duct tape, which are widely produced today. It is also frequently used in the production of the handle part of modern rifles and modern pistols used today. In addition, it is a polymer that is frequently used to ensure safety in the use and interaction of electrical switches and sockets. Since homopolymers are moldable polymers, these polymers are frequently used to convert them into fibers. Fibers used in the production of traditional carpets, fibers used in the production of decorative tapes and knitwear, fibers in tablecloths spread on dining tables, fibers in fabrics used in making wigs, fibers used in clothing, fibers used in the manufacture of sacks, fibers used in the manufacture of ropes, fibers used in the production of packaging rope used in the production of packaging It is a polymer that is frequently used in fiber-based products such as

Copolymer

Again, as in homopolymer, copolymers are polymers suitable for molding easily. And it is suitable for the application of injection and blowing processes in copolymers as well as in homopolymers. Soft drink cans mostly created for the preservation of cold drinks and frozen foods, gas and petrol cans in petrol stations, headlights and bumpers of automobiles, water pipes used in installations, boilers in washing machines in our homes, battery boxes, components used in refrigerators, vacuum plates and corrugated plates, and Copolymers are frequently used in the production of many plastic products such as these.
